Top 5 Favorite Korean Actresses

Just like in choosing favorite Korean actors, an equal amount of energy is needed to choose my favorite Korean actresses. These actresses display the versatility and talent that just shines above the rest. Korean actresses are sometimes dubbed as "Vampire-like" because they never seem to grow old or if they do, they do it fabulously.

 

In choosing my favorite actresses, I have considered those I admired from 2010-2020 because there are just so many who played the classics in the years before.

 

Here are my personal favorites and the reasons why:

Han Hyo-Joo

Ever since I watched Han Hyo-Joo play the character of Dong Yi in the 2010 drama of the same title, she's been my all-time favorite. She can play hardcore melodrama like in Sping Waltz, being a doctor in the fantasy/thriller "W-Two Worlds" and of course, the brilliant Dong Yi who was a water maid who rose to be the king's concubine.

Eun Hyun Hye

I first discovered Hyun Eun-Hy in "Lie to Me" which was in 2011. I really enjoyed that Romantic Comedy which gave me a really good time. Upon watching her other dramas, I discovered that "Lie to Me" was just the tip of the iceberg. She starred in the iconic "Princess Hours" and "Coffee Prince" which are timeless favorites beyond Korea. Her drama with Lee Min Ho entitled "Personal Taste" was also one of my favorites. She is now 35 years old but still as active in dramas as ever. 

 

Jun Ji-Hyun

Jun Ji-Hyun, our resident sassy girl just doesn't get old. Looking at her, would you believe she's 38 years old? Oh, her mischievous and funny characters just seem so natural. I think the first-ever Korean movie I've watched was Sassy Girl. If you're feeling blue, just watch a Jun Ji-Hyun drama like "My Love from the Star" and "The Legend of the Blue Sea" and she's sure to make you laugh. Who also got excited after seeing her in the last episode of Kingdom's season 2?

 

Song Hye-Kyo

Another person who seems younger than her age of 38. She played Dr. Kang or "Beauty"  in "Descendants of the Sun". She displayed the right mix of self-assurance and confidence that we all needed. Plus, who hasn't watched "Full House" which is one of the first Korean dramas that sparked global fame. She was also married to leading man Song Joong-Ki. Hyun Bin, who's made a comeback in "Crash Landing on You", was her ex-boyfriend. 

 

Kim Ji-Won

Kim Ji Won is probably the youngest in this list, only being 27 years old. She played a lot of dramas but my personal favorite was her character in "Descendants of the Sun" who was a military doctor and the leading lady of Park Seo-Joon in "Fight For My Way". Aside from the Song-Song couple, her loveteam with Jin Go in DOTS was what made the show even more exciting. Sometimes, they were even more dramatic. She can play heavy drama and also comedy.
