Top 5 Favorite Korean Actors
"Hey, who's your favorite oppa?" This is often asked when someone hears that you've been watching a lot of Korean drama. Needless to say, the variety of actors who portray "ideal guys" that are both good looking as well as chivalrous significantly adds appeal to the whole plot of the drama. When asks who my favorite is, there certainly is a number of oppa who pop up in my mind and it simply is hard to choose among them. I've personally judged my favorite Korean actor based on how well they portrayed their characters on my favorite dramas.
For my favorite koran actors, I've painstakingly narrowed them down to 5 and here are the reasons why:
Lee Min Ho
For most kdrama fans, they discovered Lee Min Ho in the famous drama "Boys Over Flowers" where he played Gu Jun-Pyo whom we all know. Honestly, I personally didn't really connect with his character that much during the drama (my favorite was Kim Bum). But then, I discovered a kdrama gem which made me think otherwise. "Faith" or "The Great Doctor" made me fall head over heels with Lee Min Ho. Aside from the time-travel plot, he played the role of a Goryeo general quite dashingly and he looked more crushable in his rugged historical costume. Since then (2012), I've been following his acting career and now awaiting weekly updates on "The King: Eternal Monarch" on netflix.
Song Joongki
"Descendants of the Sun" was a 2016 must-watch kdrama. Personally, it revived my love for korean drama after years of hiatus. Song Joong-ki played the role of Special Forces Captain Yoo Shi-Jin and made hearts flutter everywhere. "Big boss" can play tough on fight scenes and cute on couple banters with his leading lady Song Hye Kyo. The Song-song couple portrayed so much chemistry on film which made fans flip over when they got married but also instantly grieved when they announced their divorce.
Park Seo Joon
Park Seo Joon-- the person who could rock the chestnut haircut and transform it only the latest trend. He has this very cute but at the same time very manly appeal that he can pull off historical fiction characters, into cute boy next door and then avenging son. His international fanbase grew even bigger after "Hwarang" and since then, he's been giving us quality dramas year after year. His latest drama, "Itaewon Class" has been a big hit but my personal favorite is, "Fight For My Way".
Lee Jong Suk
Lee Jong Suk has an angelic face, no argument there. He's a very good actor who can play just about any personality. He could practically do nothing and we would still stare his precious face in the tv screen. Good thing is his acting can certainly keep up. From a reporter to a prosecutor and then a webtoon character, he can pull off anything. My personal favorite was "W: Two Worlds Apart" because I would certainly believe him to be a perfect webtoon character.
Kim Soo-Hyun
Since his famous character in "Dream High", Kim Soo-Hyun just doesn't disappoint. My favorite was "Moon Embracing the Sun" where he was the king but I have a historical fiction bias. What I admire about him is he always plays a different character persona like an alien, a king, a North Korean spy, and always does it on point. A single episode cameo from Kim Soo-Hyun will immediately blow up in social media.
