Why Your "to-do List" Can Change Your Life

We live in a topsy-turvy world. We get distracted when the phone rings. We become overburdened with surmounting office tasks and we get lost when someone rants about us on Facebook. At the end of all the dizzying pressures of the day, we find ourselves defeated. We've lost our focus and accomplished too short of what is expected of us.

One of the methods that is frequently recommended is a 'to-do list.' It may sound too simple but a 'to-do list' can help us identify the most important and the more urgent tasks of the day. We are also given freedom to distinguish what is important from what is urgent. Your list may be as simple as a plain notebook where you can write the date on top and the list of things that needs to be done that day. If you are willing to have a more glamorous list, there are many  ready made in the bookstore.

A list is a powerful tool used by many successful people. They say, it is your starting point to success. The moment you can identify your priorities for the day, you give your body a go signal on the things that should be tackled. Once you've embarked on the most important task of the day, your brain tells you to keep working until all in the list gets ticked. How many of us feels gratified when we crossed out one task? This is because we feel a sense of accomplishment when our list gets shorter.

A to-do list makes us also organized. We develop focus and a sense of control on how the day should be spent. Many of our unhappiness usually stems from losing control over a situation. This occurs when we normally feel powerless over something. A to-do list, no matter how trivial it may seem, gives us a sense of control over our lives. It gives us  directions towards our goals.  The more we adhere to it, the more we accomplish.

So the next time you feel trodden down by sprouting obligations, why not grab a pencil and a notebook.

Remember, it can change your life.
