Instagram is one of the most widely used Social Networking Services (SNS) in the world with over 1 billion users considering that it is mainly a photo-sharing network. It has become a medium of creative and emotional expression. You can post about your hobbies, travels, artworks, and any recreational activities. If you're into photography or you simply want to document your life, then you should give Instagram a go.

If you're new with Instagram or someone who just wants to improve their existing account to make it more appealing, here are some simple tips on improving your feed:

1. Take high-quality photos

Posting high-quality photos actually make a difference in your Instagram feed. Other people can see your photo clearly and it becomes more inviting. Since this site is full of photographs, one blurred pic can really be distinguished. This can simply be improved by using the back camera of your smartphone and learning the importance of natural lighting so that you can use it to your advantage. It will also become a way for you to practice photography.

2. Pick a theme or mood

One important trait of an Instagram feed is that it must be coherent. Your individual pictures should complement each other. You can choose a general mood or theme for your Instagram feed. Since it is your visual personality, choose the kind of you you want to portray. It can be grunge, moody, boho, tropical, colorful, minimal or white. Choose something that portrays your real personality to add a more genuine touch.

3. Choose a general topic to post about

You should ask yourself: "what would I like to post about?" You can post things that you're most passionate about. If you look at famous accounts, they usually post about the same topics. It can either be travels, beaches, hiking, vegan food, different cuisines, outfits, fashion inspirations or a combination of related topics. You can plan it out depending on your own likes and hobbies.

4. Stick with only one filter

A theme necessitates a consistent filter.  There are Instagram previews where you can decide your filters or you can even use other apps to process your photos like Adobe Lightroom, VSCO, or your go-to photo editing app. If you prefer, you may also opt not to use filter if your theme is more on natural colors and lightings. But if you choose a filter, make sure it also goes with your theme.

5. Plan your grid layout

A grade layout is the arrangement of your pictures in your feed. You should plan ahead on how you want your feed to look like so that it will also help you decide on your next post. You can mix up your photos with inspirational quotations or some accents and try to make a pattern. For example, for every 6 photos of views, you can add 3 photos with inspirational quotes. It depends on how you want to present your feed.
